*Thank you for ALL of the advice and recommendations. I have tried quite a few that were listed with minor results, but I have not tried the Mylanta/Benadryl mixture. Our pediatrician prescribed that for Noah when he had blisters down the back of his throat with Hand, Foot & Mouth. I am going to try it. If you also get pretty sores like this one, be sure to check out the great suggestions!*
See this sore....

Don't be frightened, it's just me late at night.

I have 3 of them.
Does anyone else ever get these? They are called apthous sores and they are really painful. I feel as though I've tried every antidote under the sun, but I know that is not true. If you have any advice to offer, I'm all mouth ears.

I have gotten these before and my dad always said they were caused from stress. I wonder why I don't have any right now??? Sorry, love. I wish I had a special remedy to share.
salt water heals sores in the mouth, but that is the only advice I have...sorry! That looks painful!
I have no answers for you...and sorry, but I've never had one of those. Looks painful--ouch!
I'm cracking up at your pics...so funny.
have you tried Vick's vapor rub on your feet?? ;)
this is so random that I happened to cross your page and see your blog on your sores.... I get them when I am stressed/fighting off something and finally found THE SOLUTION: make a mixture of equal parts Children's Benadryl and Mylanta. Swish in mouth as many times a day as needed. It will work wonders!
you can get gels at the drug store that will create a "film" over them that at least make them feel temporarily better/allow you to eat (i can never chew food when i get them because they hurt too bad). they're also called canker sores, so that's what's listed on most of the packages
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! My mouth hurts just looking at them. I have no advice, but I'll say a little prayer! Thanks for your super sweet comment over at my blog today! It really made my day!
Hi Ashley, there is a Rx for mouth sores that works great. It is called Lydex (generic form is Fluocinonide). It really is the only thing that I have found that will work. It works best at the onset of one developing, but it also will work with pre-existing sores. I hope this helps.
I'm glad my mom messaged you! She always talks about this prescription, I've only tried it once and it worked for me! Ronnies suffers from mouth sores too...his last one was on the back of his throat! YIKES!
oohhh...sorry about those. never know what to do, always just ride them out.
LOVE the pics of kayter-bug's party. cute, cute idea! she is so adorable...love the bangs. :) you looked really cute in yellow, too. at least you went with the bumble-bee balloon!
did noah send me a voicemail the other day? i heard you in the background telling him what to say :)
Ashley, I get these ALL the time... they suck, as you know.
I actually have one right now exactly where you have that one!
I found this stuff at Walgreens called, Tanac-no sting liquid. It's great b/c you can put it on and it REALLY numbs the area. It makes it easier to deal with while you're waiting for it to heal. That way I can talk or eat just lick my lips if I want :)
It sure helps with falling asleep at night. just nice to feel like it's not there for a while.
I have 1 of those on the roof of my mouth right now! I feel your pain...the only way to get rid of them that I know of is salt water.
My sister and I were just talking about this...we get them ALL the time. We use Zilactin gel. You can buy it over the counter. It burns like H-E-*-* when you put it on. I mean, so bad that my eyes water and makes me tingle all over, but it puts a coating over it and helps it heal us quicker. I hate them. No, I despise them!!! Take a bunch of Vit C.
I'm a nurse at a children's hospital, and they call the mylanta and benadryl mixture "magic mouthwash" and they actually prescribe it. I've tried it myself, and it's great to soothe the pain and lasts longer than most other things. Use that for the pain. What I think works best to help heal them is the stuff that creates a film over it. Use that before bed, and you should notice a huge difference in the morning.
Vitamin B. I take it as soon as I start to get a sore and it helps to lessen the severity. Mine are brought on by stress.
I'm sorry!
Hey Ashley
I am the queen of these sores. I usually have at least one a week in my mouth. The dentist said there is study that has shown exactly what these are caused from. However he did say that they can induced by stress. Also, certain foods cause me to get them like Strawberries and acidic fruits. Oh and sugar too! Ok so the one thing you can do take make them heal faster is rinse it with peroxide 1-2 times a day. This does not make the pain stop but it heals it faster. For the pain I use Kanka. You can get it anywhere.. it just coats it so that you can stand to eat and get away from the pain for a bit.
I wouldnt wish these on anyone! Good luck! Mine usually take about a week to heal if I rinse it...if not it can take up to two weeks.
Ok Ashley, I have to ask! I was just on Brandy Hall's blog and saw you on her comments! How do you know her? My husband and I were in youth ministry for 10 years and Brandy was in our first youth group ever! How funny!
Tamra
They are caused by stress. I had like 6 in my mouth right before our wedding. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to kiss when he said kiss the bride! My family always used a kind of spice called alum or possibly allum. It kinda looks like salt and you just rub it on the sores. I'm not gonna lie, it hurts like a.....well it hurts alot. But it has always worked for me. Hope this helps.
Ashley,
I used to get these all the time. Don't have any magic antidote but I have advise on what you eat. Watch your sugar and bread intake. I cut these down and it really helped. My dentist told me it has to do with how my body digest carbs. It is worth a try.
Peroxyl. It's a mouthwash specially for these sores. It works wonders!
