My
friend asked a question on her blog. She asked if you were a dog person, a cat person or a 'both' person. I had to tell her I was a 'neither' person. It's sad, but true. I have never been an animal lover. I know I am a rarity. Most people love their pets or wish they had one. I wish I were like that, but I'm just not. I don't mind animals, I just don't want to own one. I guess a lot of it goes back to never having pets growing up. I kind of dread the day my kids come to me begging for a pet. I think I will try to persuade them to get a fish.
I compromise by saying that I like people, a lot. That makes up for my animal aversion.
Since I like the question, I thought I would ask the same. Just answer the poll. I'll be curious to find out what everyone loves.

I'm totally with you, Ash. Randon teases me that I'm a horrible person b/c to me, pets just don't have as much to offer as the work that comes along with them. It's just not an even trade in my book. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!
We won't get an animal until Audrey is old enough to watch it grow...and it won't be a cat. However, a black cat has been hanging outside our front door this week and tries to run in every time we open the door. (This was actually my next blog topic:) Audrey thinks its name is "No, No Kitty." She loves it, but we are definitely not cat people.
I guess I should say "hanging OUT outside". The cat is not "hanging"...sorry PETA!
Poor Noah and Kayt. Growing up in a pet-less household. haha.
I am clearly a cat person. Way less maintainence. Plus you can fill their food and water bowls up to the top and they are good to go for several days. You don't have to worry about finding someone to take them for a walk, and feed them, and make sure they are okay emotionally like you do with dogs. Most cats are pretty indifferent whether or not you are there as long as they have something to eat, drink, a litter box and a nice place to nap.
Anyway, I think a quote from "Meet the Parents" about sums it up: "A dog is very easy to break, but cats make you work for their affection. They don't sell out the way dogs do."
And this was a lot longer of a response than I intended.
PS. Fish are way more work than either a dog or cat in my experience!
Ashley, I was with you until around 2001 when my roommate got a kitty for mom... and never actually gave it to her. That thing was the cutest P.I.T.A. (pain in the you know what) and she totally grew on me. I'd get a cat again (and maybe name it NO! NO KITTY!) but a dog? Naaah! Like the Selfs said, they are high maintenance! And their breath... ugh, their breath!
After I left that comment last night I remembered seeing those liners on a commercial. But I obviously didn't care at that time because I wasn't using a crock pot daily (or actually really cooking at all) I will definitely try them out!
As for the dog/cat thing--Im definitely a dog person. They are so loyal! Our dog was our baby until we had Saylor. I swore that he wouldn't stop being our baby once she got here, but I hate to admit that I was VERY wrong!! Maybe it's the situations lately but he seems to be such a burden (My husband would disagree). He surely wasn't easy to have in each and every hotel room we stayed in and all the costs of pet deposits that we had to pay. And now, with a crawler, I sweep AT LEAST 3 times a day so Saylor doesn't get handfuls of dog hair as she crawls. I'm very sure that he makes my OCD much worse!! However, he loves us unconditionally and our family would truly be incomplete without him!
You already know my answer....
I told someone recently that I hope my kids are scared of dogs like yours.(hobby lobby story) They said why would you ever wish that upon your children. (maybe because I'm scared too!)
I like animals that are in cages...like at a zoo.
X-dog lover.
I have a dog, and before I had kids I thought she was so sweet and cute and I didn't mind washing her or petting her or walking her. I LOVED that dog!
But now that I have kids, the dog has moved WAY down the ranks. She has been reduced to just another thing to take care of. It's kind of sad I guess. At least my kids think she's cute.
Definitely more of a dog person that a cat person. Having kids sure does change your thinking though. Ever since we put Samantha down, I must say it is nice not to worry about taking care of one. I thought I would be eager to get another one soon after, but I must say my interest level is zero!
Yep, me too...neither. Jody really resents me for this, and even tries to tell me (at least twice a week) that our daughters WILL be scarred in life since they don't have a dog. I say...once someone, anyone, is old enough, or can be trusted to take care of a dog, and clean up their messes, THEN we can get a dog, but for now, I have to take care of three people and three people's messes, and I just don't have the energy for any more!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
And why does Megan ALWAYS make me laugh???? Her comments are so stinkin funny, and she's not even trying to be!
I can say that I've always loved dogs and hated cats (mostly b/c of allergies) and because they are stupid. But during college Alexis had a cat that was more like a dog and for that time period I enjoyed the cat. But now I can say that I am back to my anti-cat tactics and only love dogs!!!
I bet you didn't know that I am a dog lover. :) Never really been a big cat fan. Scout is like the third member of our family- we'll have had her for seven years in February. For me, the Lab can't be beat. She's big, snuggly and smart. She's gotten better with age too- much calmer and sweeter than when she was a puppy.
My parents got my brother and I a dog when I was about seven and it taught us a lot about responsibility. I have so many good childhood memories with her. That said, we probably won't get another dog until we have kids who are old enough to appreciate it and help take care of it. Having a puppy with small children/babies would be really tough and isn't very fair to the dog. They require a lot of attention the first year or so.
Scout sheds buckets of hair, requires frequent bathroom breaks and occasionally eats something of sentimental value, but we love her-so it's worth it to us.
Amy, Scout is on the top of my dog liking list. As was Sam :(
Scout is one of a kind though.
Love, love, love, the new picture of Noah and Kayt! Where did you take those??? Did you take them?
I feel the same way. Not a pet person.
I was never an animal person. But I got married and my sweet husband just begged and begged to get a dog. I caved and just figured the dog would be "his thing". Well. We got our sweet Riley-girl and I fell in love with her. I never thought I could love an animal. Much less, as much as I love my Riley. So you never know... your kids may come begging for a dog and you may cave like I did and find yourself pleasantly surprised!
I hope so Kelly!
I'm not holding my breath though :)
